Open Qualifying
Wellingborough professional Ryan Evans came up just short in his bid to play in the 2019 Open Championship as he finished 11th in Final Qualifying at Hollinwell (Notts) GC.
The European Challenge Tour player, who competed in the 2016 Open at Royal Troon, posted scores of 71 and 72 to miss out on qualification by four shots.
Fellow Northamptonshire pro Simon Lilly (Staverton) was 34th on 148, while County pro Adam Myers had to settle for 53rd at Fairmont St. Andrews on 153.
Northants County amateur Ben Jones, who finished 38th at St. Annes Old Links on 147, has seen his good form rewarded with selection to represent England in the European Team Championships at Ljunghusen GC in Sweden this week.
The 20-year-old will be in confident mood after making the semi-finals of the British Amateur Championship as well as grabbing third in the European Amateur Championship last month to rise to 37th in the World Amateur Rankings.
With the initial squad of 26 GB & Ireland players for the 2019 Walker Cup set to be slimmed down this month, Jones is now expected to be one of the first names on the team sheet for the match at Royal Liverpool GC in early September.
Peterborough Milton teenager Robin Williams, who was also named in the provisional squad, is unlikely to make the cut.
