Seniors Anglian & East Midlands
Northamptonshire Seniors team clinched the Anglian League and East Midlands League for the first time in the same year as they defeated Lincolnshire by a single point at Oundle GC.
With little to choose between the two sides after the morning foursomes, the contest remained in the balance when Northants won two, lost two and halved one of the opening five singles games.
Although Lincolnshire moved ahead with a win and a half in the next two games, Northamptonshire secured victory, thanks to points from Alistair Heslop, Mike Burnhope and team captain Alan Wrigley.
With Northants pipping Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands League and edging out Suffolk in the Anglian standings, Wrigley was understandably proud of the team’s achievements this year.
He said: “What a close fought contest our last league match of the season proved to be on a very challenging course.
“It has been a fantastic effort, since our last two games, away at Leicestershire and home against Lincolnshire, have both been decided by just one point. Well done to everyone that has competed in this year’s League matches.”
