A model that many clubs can follow, says Mudge

Overstone Park’s successful effort in promoting junior golf in recent years has been recognised by The Golf Foundation with the club receiving The Bonallack Award for 2019.
The presentation, which was made on Celebrity Pro-Am Day during the BMW PGA Tournament at Wentworth earlier this month, acknowledged their outstanding project work that has helped young people to ‘Start, Learn, Stay’ in golf.
Club pro Brian Mudge said: “The award goes to the project that most engages young children in learning, playing the game and then staying in the game by giving them a clear pathway for club membership.
“It is a result of four years of work at Overstone. The project is as much about the development of the child as it is about the golf – it was important to give sportingly under-privileged children from the schools the chance to play golf.
“Anne and Tom Davies from Lings School, plus Lynette Pilgrim (Ecton Brook) and Cathy Whaler (Abingdon Vale) were driving the project from within the schools.
Importantly the members of the club totally bought into the project.
“All you need is a willing golf coach and Captains buying into a vision of the future of junior golf at the club. It is a model that many clubs can follow.”
