Anglian League

A second successive defeat has almost certainly ended Northamptonshire men’s hopes of retaining their Anglian League title as they went down 6½-5½ against Leicestershire at Birstall GC.
After a shock home loss to Cambridgeshire in their opening fixture in May, the county were level at lunch after points from Lee Hitchcock and Fraser Carnihan (one hole) and Miles Mudge and Max Haywood (3&1).
All four were beaten in the afternoon singles, meaning wins from Charlie Salter, Fergus Robinson and Michael Farr, and a half from Joe Quinn, weren’t enough to get anything from the contest.
It was a similar story for the Northamptonshire second team in the reverse fixture at Peterborough Milton GC as the hosts were beaten for the second match this year.
The county second string failed to capitalise on a 3-1 advantage following the morning pairs, as they lost six of the eight singles ties to suffer a 7-5 defeat.
