Anglian League

Northamptonshire’s men face a first and second team double header against Lincolnshire in the Anglian League on Sunday, August 4th.
Both sides go into the weekend in a positive frame of mind after recording their first victories of the season at the third time of asking with a double success against Norfolk in early July.
Wins from Lee Hitchcock and Taylor Sargeant (one hole) and Fraser Carnahan and Chris White (3&2), and a half from Mark Bazeley and Jack Binch, gave the County first team a slender lead going into the afternoon singles at Royal Cromer GC.
Although Michael Farr added another point for the visitors in game one, Norfolk seized control by taking the next three matches, as well as securing the last match with holes to spare.
Northants, whose title defence had started with narrow defeats to Cambridgeshire and Leicestershire, didn’t panic however as Binch won on the 17th hole, before Bazeley and White both came good down the last to secure a 6½-5½ team victory.
It was a similar story for the County second team as they recorded a 7-5 home success at Peterborough Milton GC.
The match was evenly poised after the morning pairs with the home side’s two wins coming from Tom Burgh and Jay Noye (one hole) and James Barker and Richard Dalton (3&2).
Singles points from Michael Wood (2&1) and Mark Stockdale (5&3) gave Northants the advantage but Norfolk battled back by securing the next three ties.
Burgh (6&4) levelled up the overall score, before the experienced duo of Dalton (one hole) and Barker (2&1) sealed a home win.
