Another good result for MacLaren on LET
Wellingborough pro Meghan MacLaren completed a very successful month in the southern hemisphere by grabbing a share of eighth place in the Investec South Africa Women’s Open at Westlake GC.
Fresh from retaining her Women’s New South Wales Open title the previous week, MacLaren kept the big numbers off her scorecard in strong winds on day one as she remained in contention with a round of 76.
With conditions improving slightly for the last two days in the Ladies European Tour event, the 24-year-old carded five birdies in a brilliant second round 69, before finishing with a level par 72 on a tight course.
MacLaren, who also finished sixth in the Canberra Classic earlier this month, stays third on the LET Order of Merit as well as maintaining her position in the top 10 of the qualification rankings for the 2019 Solheim Cup.
Whilst fellow county golfer Charley Hull (Kettering) is almost certain to be selected to play for the European team for the fourth time, MacLaren will need to maintain her best form to force her way into the 12-player side at Gleneagles, Scotland.
Automatic places to face the USA in August will be claimed based on recent results on the LET and also world ranking points, with four wild card spots being chosen by team captain Catriona Matthew.
