English Amateur Championship
Northamptonshire’s Callum Farr produced a stunning performance in the 2019 English Amateur Championship as he finished runner-up to Conor Gough (Stoke Park).
The Corby golfer carded rounds of 67 at Hankley Common GC and 74 at North Hants GC to qualify for the knockout stages in 27th position.
Farr, who reached the semi-finals 12 months ago, emphasised his matchplay prowess once again as he beat Northants County’s Fergus Robinson 5&4 in the opening round, before edging out Max Martin (Harborne) on the 18th.
The county first team player defeated Jason Stokes (La Moye) 3&2 in his next match, beat Enrique Dimayuga (Walton Heath) 4&3 in the quarters, before making the final with a 2&1 success against Bradley Bawden (Rochford Hundred).
Competing against 2018 England Boys Amateur Champion Gough in the 36-hole Final, Farr battled hard to reduce an early deficit but he was unable to get back on level terms and was eventually beaten 3&2.
Fellow county golfer Robin Williams (Peterborough Milton) lost in the preliminary knock round, while Charlie Salter, Matt Myers and Michael Farr (all Northants County) missed the cut.
