Golf could be one of first sports to re-open

UK Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden is assessing whether golf could be one of the first sports to re-open when the government decides to ease Coronavirus Lockdown restrictions.

With the sport being non-contact and already providing natural social distancing measures there is hope that golf could resume next month.

Speaking at a Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) select committee, Dowden said if golf, alongside fishing and bowls, could re-open safely then he would press the case to the prime minister and the COBRA emergency response committee.

He pledged: “We are gathering that information. In respect of all sports I want us to ease restrictions as quickly as we are able to, but that has to be consistent with the public evidence and guidance.”
