Ladies Intermediate & Bronze Championship

Yvonne Wilcox used her local knowledge wisely in the County Ladies Intermediate Championship as she claimed the top prize with a round of 86 on her home course at Rushden GC.

A run of two gross pars and a birdie at the start of the back nine gave her a lead she never relinquished as she finished two clear of Anna Heaver (Northants County), with Viv Mcmanus (County) in third on 89.

Delapre Park’s Julie Edwards carded two gross birdies in a net 71 to secure the net prize ahead of runner-up Cecilia Edwards (County).

Liz Rees (Wellingborough) was crowned County Ladies Bronze Champion after finishing three strokes clear of the chasing pack with a round of 96 on the same course.

A gross par on the closing short hole proved decisive as she held off the challenge of runner-up Rosie Cullis (Kingsthorpe) and Wellingborough club-mate Bina Shah, who picked up the net prize with a 74. Michelle Smith (County) was second.

The County Men’s Seniors Championship, which was scheduled to be played at Wellingborough golf course at the start of this week, was postponed due to the hot weather.
