NGL Junior Order of Merit
A record field of Northamptonshire boys and girls showed their enthusiasm to play golf as they took part in the opening NGL Junior Order of Merit in heavy rain at Collingtree Park.
With over 60 Northants youngsters competing in the 18-hole and nine-hole categories, Overstone’s Mark Stockdale led the boys net scoring as he finished two ahead of the chasing pack with a net 69.
Thomas Sandiford (Northants County) took second place on countback from gross winner Matthew Green (Aspley Guise), who represented Northamptonshire Schools last year.
Northampton’s Leah Ribano (net 72) led the girls net scoring by three strokes from Kettering’s Ashleigh Critchley, who compiled the best gross round of 81, and Katie Amos (Northampton).
With weather conditions getting worse throughout the day, the younger golfers in the afternoon nine-hole competition were praised for their perseverance, particularly as some of their scores inevitably suffered.
Tyler Langwith (Overstone), Jack Meakin (Wellingborough) and Finn Smith (Kettering) carded the best three rounds of 25, 22 and 20 points respectively
Olivia Barby (Wellingborough) was the leading girl as she moved a step closer to getting her first handicap with an excellent tally of 19 points.
