Leaders Northants County opened the door for Peterborough Milton to snatch the Scratch League title after losing their last match of the campaign 5-3 at Overstone Park.

Although the hosts recorded two comfortable wins through Andrew MacDonald and Ryan Genner, the contest remaining in the balance as all the other six ties reached the 18th hole.

Reigning champions Overstone seized control however thanks to victories from Phil Gardner and Peter Gasson, before Jack Binch and Lee Hitchcock confirmed the home success with a couple of halves.

County, whose wins came from Andrew Blackwell and Fergus Robinson, remain two points ahead of Milton, but they will be overtaken if their rivals manage to win either of their final two away matches at Wellingborough and Northampton.

In the third division, Rushden moved up to fourth in the standings as points from Robert Clark, Alfie Masser, Steve Kempson and Owen Roberts secured a 4-2 home victory against Oundle, who are now destined to finish bottom.
