NGL Scratch League – Division 1

Northampton maintained their first division status for another year after relegating Overstone Park by edging a thrilling home contest by a single point.
With the visitors needing a victory to avoid the drop, David Smith and Jack Binch gave them hope with two comfortable wins early on.
Although Dean Roberts, Dominic Jessup and Ross Skidmore collected points for Northampton, the overall result remained in the balance as the other three ties all reached the 18th hole.
Overstone couldn’t turn the matches in their favour however as the home trio of
Andy Saunders, Sam Gilkes and Lewis White all collected halves.
Kingsthorpe will also be playing in the second division next year as their stay in the top tier lasted just a single season after they suffered a 7-1 home reverse to champions Northants County.
Needing just a draw to leapfrog above Peterborough Milton into fourth place, a home success rarely looked likely as Kingsthorpe’s only joy came in the opening tie as Ian Townsend came through on the 18th hole.
