Open Championship Qualifying

Local knowledge proved important in regional qualifying for the 2019 Open Championship at Northants County GC as Sam Broadhurst, Adam Myers and Simon Lilly made it through.
With the top 10 progressing into Final Qualifying for the event at Royal Portrush GC, amateur Sam Broadhurst (Atherstone), who is the son of Northants County’s Seniors Tour pro Paul Broadhurst, carded the leading score of four-under-par 66.
In a field of 85 players, home club pro Adam Myers finished just one shot off the pace, while Simon Lilly (Staverton) also got through to the next stage.
Fellow county pros David Poolton, Luke Barney and Simon Williams, plus amateurs Fergus Robinson and Mikey Chambers missed out.
Myers will play Final Qualifying at Fairmont St Andrews this week, Broadhurst and Lilly will join Wellingborough’s Challenge Tour pro Ryan Evans at Notts (Hollinwell) GC, while Northants County amateur Ben Jones is competing at St Annes Old Links GC.
