Rain helps green staff with course conditions

Greenkeepers at golf clubs across Northamptonshire breathed a collective sigh of relief early this month as the courses received a much-needed covering of rain.

Whilst all golfers were delighted to enjoy glorious sunshine on the resumption of play in mid-May following the coronavirus lockdown, the green staff were becoming more wary about the lack of water on the greens and fairways.

After noting that the May rainfall measurement was ‘almost certainly an all-time low figure’ for the area, Wellingborough Golf Club were therefore pleased with the first showers, tweeting: “Rain! Not heavy enough to make a real difference – but better than nothing. First for over a month.”

The heavier rainfall over the weekend meant Wellingborough, and all the other Northants courses, are now better, as Overstone tweeted: “Finally some rain to green the place up. Nice cut on the tees today that are looking so much better for some H2O.”
