WHS World Handicap System

Golf Club members across Northamptonshire will need to come to terms with the introduction of the new World Handicap System (WHS), which was rolled out at the start of this month throughout the UK.

In an attempt to make amateur golf fairer by unifying the different systems around the world, a player’s handicap will now be based on their best eight recent scores, whilst taking into account the difficulty of the respective golf courses.

Although governing bodies USGA and the R&A have worked closely with the Golf Unions and Golf Clubs to implement the WHS, some golfers may be in for a shock as their usual handicap could go up or down when the new calculations are made.
