New County President appointed

Jack Marr became the new County President as he took over from Kathryn Stronach during the Northamptonshire Golf Ltd Annual General Meeting at Wellingborough GC last week.

The Priors Hall member, who has been NGL Treasurer and Vice President for the last two years, says it’s an honour to be handed the prestigious role until March 2024.

Marr said: “I’m very proud to become County President. It was a bit of a shock to be asked in the first place, but I’m very happy.

“My role over the next two years is to support all the other Directors and the Team Captains, go to as many events and show that we are backing them. I think it’s important that we get the message out there about what we are trying to achieve.

“We ran as many competitions as we could last year – it was basically half a year, due to the coronavirus restrictions but we did pretty well in the end. We had to drop some competitions, but we did most of them.

“Hopefully we are now through the worst of covid. If there is another strain of the virus things could change of course, but we are looking to get back to normal.

“This year we want to get the coaching back up and running for the kids, the academy and the elite squads – that’s not been done for a couple of years, so it’s something we need to do.

“We’ve got Oundle professional Michael Farr on board to help with the coaching of the kids – that’s the big thing for me.”

In addition to the County Presidency change, NGL Commercial Director Catherine Tildesley took on the post of Vice President.
