NGL Championship events cancelled

Lewis White (Northampton) and Ashleigh Critchley (Wellingborough) can keep the respective men’s and ladies county championship trophies for another year after the 2020 tournament was called off due to the coronavirus.

The events, which were scheduled to take place at Kingsthorpe and Whittlebury in May and June respectively, will not be rearranged later in the year due to the unavailability of new dates.

With non-competitive golf currently allowed under government restrictions, Northamptonshire Golf Ltd have also cancelled the Higgs Bowl, Scratch Foursomes, Family Foursomes and Fourball Betterball.

In a statement on the NGL website, the county added: “All other competitions are being reviewed, progress of playing golf is being monitored and course availabilities will be checked to see if any of these can be played this year.

“Updates will continue to follow with the next one likely the second week of June unless significant changes appear in the meantime.

“Any competitions which have already been cancelled will show this in the competition title (on the website) for that event.

“This is the same case for all the KO’s and the Leagues for 2020. The entry fees for the (cancelled) competitions will be refunded to the players in due course.

“The most important thing is that you all stay safe and please respect all the clubs’ advice and help everyone to return to the game we love with lots of passion.”
